South Korea vs Japan: Birth Odds & Game Starting Conditions

South Korea has 0.32 times Japan's annual birth weight in this game dataset. This comparison uses annual births, not the chance that a particular person exists.

What makes this comparison useful?

Both countries have high life-expectancy inputs, yet the number of births determines a different starting chance. A low birth share does not mean that living there is rare among people already alive: that second question needs population weights. Compare the two modes before drawing conclusions. Schooling and PPP income are model context and cannot describe every household in Seoul or Tokyo.

Check the denominator

The annual birth weights sum to 131,932,758 across 172 included countries and territories. Population weights sum to 8,078,638 inherited dataset units. Each share divides the selected country's matching weight by the matching covered total. Coverage, missing territories and rounded inputs can change these shares.

Try the same question two ways

  1. Compare birth shares, then switch to population weights. The two modes answer different questions.
  2. Start one life in each place. An individual ending can differ sharply from the average input.
  3. Repeat without treating a few simulated lives as evidence about a real population.
